August in Boräs - News from Syster Jordan Lund

Church with Mattias

August 3, 2105

Hejsan!!
I hope everything is going well!
This week was kind of all over the place but overall it was good! We taught Mattias a little more this week and then kind of took a break towards the end of the week and then met back up Sunday at church. We're going to lunch with him right after this, but he still loves coming to church and learning about the gospel!

Sister Giles is actually getting transferred!! NOOOO!! She will be moving to Kungsbacka and I will be staying and getting a sister named Sister Nielsen. Kungsbacka is still in our zone, so I will see her still! But man, sad day :(
We had some really good member dinners this week. One of them was the Trejos, they are a Columbian family and they made us some really good vegetable and chicken pizzas and told us to keep eating haha WE WERE STUFFED. They are such a cute family! I loveeee them. ANother meal we had with another Columbian family consisted of fish soup, rice, salad, and more cooked fish. The fish had all sorts of bones in it and we were getting stabbed all up in our gums until the daughter showed us a way to squish and squeeze the bones out without stabbing outselves.  hahah it is always crazy when we go over the Baqueros becuase there is lots of spanish flying and then some Swedish and then a little bit of english. haha not to mention the Columbian music blaring in the background. OH and to drink? We had warm squash froth. It was...not for me. I tried to play it off like it was good but I couldnt help but gag every gulp. Eventually I stopped with still like 3/4 of the cup left when the mother of the house who doesnt speak very much swedish said "Inte bra?!" I panicked and Giles took a bullet for me and grabbed my drink and glugged it down. Oh man, it was so hard to drink..I was actively looking for the best place to throw up if it pushed its way back up.
District meeting was in Skövde this week and we talking about success and how we all measure it in different ways. Our DL made a "I'm a Mormon" video with all of us in it, it was super cool haha We had hotdogs after! Deff not the same as American hot dogs, but close enough.
Another thing we did this week was make cookies for the bus drivers!! I made probably 50 cookies to pass out to the drivers we saw throughout the day, and it really brightened their day!
We found out that Robert is going to be moving to Göteborg to almost the same area that Giles is going! So hopefully she can take that all the way to the font! He is seriously SO AWESOME.
We met with an investigator who we have been trying to meet with the whole transfer. She is superrrr sweet and has a little guinea pig that crawls in your shirt...because apparently that is where they are more comfortable? Jag vet inte. Minna (the guinea pig) is SO CUTE. She was sitting in my shirt the whole lesson haha anddddd she peed and pooped all over me...I guess I was really hoping that my dedication and patience with this animal would show the investigator that I really cared haha. AND, she ate a big chunk of my hair! ugh. I walked home smelling absolutely DISGUSTING. Oh well haha
I think that is about it for this week! I miss and love you all!! I hope you all have a great week! Don't forget to read your scriptures!

Saying goodbye to Elder Farnsworth
 August 10, 2015

Halllååååå
This week has been super crazy! One transfer and lots of little miracles. On Tuesday we had our last little District Meeting with our DL who was finishing his mission. We did a little "funeral" for him which was super duper fun. We had a testimony meeting to finish it off. It was super good, spiritual, and needed. We sent Elder Farnworth off on his train to Stockholm and there were more tears than dry eyes. He was one of the best DLs I have had so far.
We had dinner at Sinikka and Hilma's house and Mattias came with us! It was super good and we had a great discussion about baptism and how to prepare for it and the blessings that come. It was super duper good for Mattias to meet more members in the ward :)
Giles finished packing this week and shipped out to Kungsbacka which is still in our zone which is nice. We celebrated with her favorite Indian restaurant with the elders right before she left. We're going to miss her but she is very much needed in Kungsbacka from what I have heard. AND WE GOT A NEW SISTER. Her name is Sister Nielsen and she is just the cutest! She is from Oregon, came into the MTC 6 weeks after me, and is the hardest worker. Oh man, it is super awesome. AND she eats healthy and likes to run! WIN WIN. Basically this transfer is going to be amazing and it already has been!
We taught Kia and Josefine this week and kind of figured out where Josefine is at. She likes to take lessons and learn but probably isn't super close to baptism so we will take it at the pace that is best for her.
The buses here in Borås are..unfortunate. The scheduling is hard and it's somewhat difficult to figure out when and where and how we are supposed to get somewhere. We were supposed to take a bus from centrum to the Eks but it didn't end up working out because we had read the time table wrong. I thought that I had figured it out though until we got to Ulricehamn and there wasn't a bus that took us the additional 20 minute drive to where we needed to be for an appointment/middag/lesson. I was wrong yet again. I had messed up TWICE. I felt really bad and I was about to call this family and ask them to pick us up when a very nice bus driver who had just finished his shift offered to drive us there. I nearly lost it with tears because of this tender mercy. I felt bad for leading all 4 of us missionaries the wrong way, but the Lord truly does help us when we are found in a state of desperation. I think about this experience as sort of an analogy. After we have done everything we can, after we have put forth our best effort to be who we should be and we still fall short, Christ can take it the rest of the way. And it was truly a miracle that we needed.
Church was good! Everyone loves Sister Nielsen which is perfect! We were invited to the Engelbrektssons for dinner with the elders and Daniel (New convert) and we had tacos and pie! Afterwards, we had planned to swing by some people and do a little bit of tracting. We got distracted on the way talking to people and ended up having a couple cool street lessons. After some successes and failures on the way home, we saw a lady who was sitting outside her apartment building alone. We tried to talk to her about the Book of Mormon but the Spirit took it another direction when Sister Nielsen told her how much Heavenly Father loves her. She asked us to pray her her and we kneeled down right then and there and prayed with and for her. She was very touched and called us angels.
Something that has been super cool lately I've really been seeing the love that God has for all of his children no matter where we are in the world. We have seen lots of miracles so far, and we are excited to see many more!!

Sorry this is so long, but have a great week!! Love and miss you lots!

Love,

Swedish church....One of the biggest in Borås
August 17, 2015

So like...where did all of August go? And summer??
Weird.
So this week was super good and busy. Last pday, we went to a less actives house and had a BBQ with her and her non member son. It was super fun! We played some lawn games and then ate and gave a little spiritual message. We had studied for a lesson we were going to have with Mattias on temples and then decided against it, but we ended up talking and teaching about temples to a new convert who wants to go to the temple! So that was cool that even though it didn't turn out how we planned, we still used it elsewhere.
We had a lesson with a new investigator named Mahut in his backyard. We tried to teach about Jesus Christ and God but it turned into him asking him to marry him or his son haha
Craziest thing!! We had met a guy who said that he doesn't have any faith and we invited him to read Alma 32 and text us after he has read it. He did!! He texted us!! He said that there wasn't much more seeking he could do but we knew there was more. We bought him a little plant thing for cheap so that we could drop it off at his apartment (where we met him) and explain that the plant had started as a little seed. We walked all the way to his apartment complex where we had met him the first time sitting outside. Turns out the building was port coded. But we knew we needed to get in there. I tried to look at the buttons and see if any were more worn out than others but they all kind of looked the same. Sister Nielsen suggested we pray so we did. The 4th combination later, the door unlocked. I guess the Lord really needed him to get that plant!
We tried to swing by a referral we had received but the building was also port coded. We knew that if God did it once he could do it again. So we prayed again that we could find a way into this building. 15 seconds later, a super nice man walked up and said here I can let you in. I guess God wanted the referral to have the opportunity to accept the gospel! Turns out the referral was a joke, but still  - God wants his children to have the opportunity!
This week we met a lot of Jehovahs witnesses! They are super nice and love to preach. We actually met with two last night who are pretty young and open to learning! We listened to them respectfully and then they listened to us...it doesn't happen too often, but it was cool to hear their beliefs and talk about Jesus Christ.
In a lesson with Mattias this week, he brought up an analogy using sudoku and claimed that you cant just guess and hope it works. I was able to grab my backpack and whip out sudoku cards that I had and explain that even though you can't take a guess and go off faith all the time, there is always another way to solve it. ALWAYS. It really got through to him and he understood. And the crazy thing is, I tried to take my sudoku cards out of my backpack 2 weeks ago because they were taking up too much room, but something told me to keep them so I did. It was awesome. We also taught his BROTHER this week. With Mattias! It was super awesome. he asked really good questions and really appreciated all the knowledge he got from us.
Unfortunately, yesterday Mattias shared that he doesn't feel ready for his baptism on the 5th of September and that he thinks he needs more time. So we are going to have to push it back. I might not be able to be here to see his whole journey, but at least I saw part of it! And we never really know what is going to happen with him haha
We had zone training this week! It was awesome and we talked about diligence! Something that is always good to talk about and learn more about so that we can be better missionaries!
Something I have noticed this week is that our contacts and getting better and better. Some days we have less, but better quality. Super cool!
Love and miss you all so much! The Lord really does bless us when we align our will with His!

 August 24, 2015

Hejsannn!!
I hope that you guys had a good week! This week was a good busy week :)
We went to the Murray's house to move and stack wood for the winter. We got the whole stack done which they didn't think would happen so they were super appreciative and they fed us tacos!
We met with Mattias a couple times this week and he said the funniest thing. He is SUPER GOOD at english, but there are still a few tiny things that are tougher for him to understand. Anyways, he asked "Is collecting a sin?" And we were like no...and he said "But it says in the Bible not to collect or commit whoredoms." because he that that that was some form of the word hoarding haha. We taught him about the Word of Wisdom and he made the decision to keep going strong and get rid of anything that could persuade him to do otherwise.
We also went to Alingsås this week! It is out of our area, but we got permission from President to go over there and meet the girl that will be staying with Sister Nielsen's family for 10 months as an exchange student! We ate some crazy shellfish that I wish I had gotten a picture of as proof. I tried crab claws, baby shrimp, and then like...a bigger shrimp thing. Definitely out of my comfort zone but good! The family is super sweet and they live in a beautiful house.
This week sleep wise has been all over the place. Sister Nielsen told me she woke up to me talking in my sleep contacting someone in Swedish haha and then I think I tried to explain something to her in my sleep missionary wise and woke up halfway through. She said "what?" and I said "Nevermind we can talk about it in the morning" haha the missionary work never ends!!
We had Swedish pancakes twice this week with members. Swedish pancakes served by real Swedish people!
This week was tough trying to talk to people and we got a little bit down on ourselves. We kept pushing forward and saw so many blessings!! We have a pile of swing bys and every time we decide to do a swing by we pray about which one we should grab. One day, we grabbed one and went over to Hedvigsborg to do a swing by and a little tracting and contacting. We tried to find the guy's name on the building's resident list but we couldn't find it. The building was MASSIVE. 19 floors or something crazy. We decided to tract the buiding anyways and we met some TUs that we had been trying super hard to get in contact with. We also accidentally tracted into a member family...awkward. We were getting lots of doors slammed in our faces when finally - the second to last door - we met a guy who let us in to his house. He introduced himself as George and his son as Ahmin. We didnt think anything of it and we tried to teach a little bit about Jesus Christ and he said that he had met missionaries before. When we got the number at the end and asked for his name again he said George K., who was the exact person we were looking for! 100+ doors later haha. It was awesome ad he wants us to come back sometime this week. And we got a call from someone who we had talked to about Jesus Christ and they want to meet sometime!
We walked to the library so we could use the bathroom and on the way back had an awesome discussion with a man on his balcony! He was super sweet and we talked about the existence of a God. He even gave us ice cream to celebrate his 88th birthday. We went to the bishops house for dinner and had a BBQ and discussed the needs of the area. It was super fun and we have an awesome bishop and ward mission leader. We helped a Muslim lady with her stroller and 2 kids on the bus today and she gave us both hugs! That doesn't usually happen, so it was cool.
Yesterday was a mission farewell and it was super great!! At the end of the program, we stood and sang Gud var med dig tills bi möts igen. It's Bro. Murray's favorite song and he had really been a help in getting this young man on a mission. Needless to say, the tears came flowing haha.
This week has been a little on the tougher side but Sister Nielsen and I continue to push forward! Life is always better when you look on the brighter side of things and truly see the blessings God provides to us :)

Walking home last night
 August 31, 2015

The months are just flying by! It is almost September!!
This week has been pretty solid!
We went on splits this week and I was able to go with my "grandma"!! She is my trainer's trainer so it was super duper fun! We talked all about our past companions that we have had in common - super fun. We swung by some people and then had dinner at Hilma's with Mattias. We made a princess torta and it turned out pretty solid!
We went and visited the Zebeda family for dinner and got to know them a little better. They own a big chocolate company that basically imports chocolate from all over the world. Like high class expensive chocolate. It was super fun and dinner was healthy, organic, and DELICIOUS. We tracted around in the area and found a cool spanish family - I so wish I had paid more attention in high school and practiced my Spanish.
In District Meeting this week, we practiced role plays and even though it is like the most AWKWARD THING EVER, Elder Stoeltzing made it super fun and goofy. We had a great time and learned a lot!
Big stupid thing of this week is that I have been sick! I started having a sore throat on Thursday evening and then it progressively got worse haha butttt things are looking up and it's going away now so all is well. It is super hard to put forth everything I have to missionary work when I'm not evening working with 100% in the first place haha. Super frustrating.
We met with Angelika and Robin (Jehovahs Witnesses) and they bought us pizza and we chatted for a bit. We laid down some expectations and they didn't really agree with them so it looks like we're gonna have to let them rest for a bit. We met with Rickard for the second time and taught the Restoration again because the first lesson was all over the place! We aren't super sure where his intentions are, so we might be handing him over to the elders.
We tracted a lot this week which is bomb! I love tracting. We basically preached to a few couples of Philippino women and their Swedish husbands. They just let us into their house and they were all super drunk and eating shellfish. Nice people, not so nice about religion, but it was fun to talk to them. We had dinner at the Delve's and had dumplings and sushi! All vegetarian and super good! Kinda funny story, we've been playing this game with members to help them realize how many people they can share the gospel with and it gets pretty competitive. The wife of this family is young and super awesome but competitive too haha right before we were starting the game, her 7 year old daughter was kind of nagging her about something. The mom just turned to her and was like "Ellie, not right now sweetie, mommy's busy" in kind of a stressed voice and the little girl just started bawling and the mom felt really bad. Poor girl, the mom apologized don't worry, all is well.
We saw a less active in church yesterday that we have been trying to meet with! She is 20 years old and just so awesome! Hopefully we will meet with her again soon. We had a lesson with Mattias with two members from our ward and they talked about their stories and the struggles they have had with addictions, it was super awesome. The Spirit was SO there!
This week has been a lot of finding effort and we haven't necessarily seen too much success, but we are still kicking all the way! And we are having fun doing it. I like to think of it as we are looking for the ones that are prepared to receive the gospel and planting seeds along the way.
Have a great week!!

Syster Jordan Lund

Californians Rule Borås!

Celebrating July 4th in Sweden

June 6, 2015

Hey everyone! I hope all is going well back home :)
This week flew by but last week seems like forever ago. We went to the chiropractor this week for Giles back. We learned some new techniques to help us with our posture and whatnot. And it was both of our first times ever going to the chiropractor so I totally thought that when he snapped her neck and she screamed that she was dead. Good thing she's not!
This week has been incredibly hot! And by incredible hot I mean around 80 degrees. And that was outside...the buses were that much worse haha. We kept joking that it was like a mission in South America haha - we are so spoiled over here in Sweden. We tried to drop off a get well soon card for one of our investigators at her house but the door to the apartment building was locked so we ended up climbing on top of each other to place it lightly in some flowers on her balcony.
On the way to a members house for dinner this week, a guy drove up in a car next to us and asked us if we were missionaries. He then invited us to get in the car with him (the elders were with us) and he would drive us where we needed to go. He said that the missionaries had helped out his mom a few years back and that ever since then he has been trying to repay us and help us out whenever he sees missionaries. Super sweet! Just goes to show that no effort is left unnoticed.
We had our first correlation meeting with our WML and he is super awesome! And he gave us some watermelon to eat on our way home - we had to scarf it all down before we got on the bus haha. We swung by the town center to contact some people and discovered a little disco concert! It was fun to see how people jam out here.
We also had zone training on Friday! We talked all about the Book of Mormon and how important it is to build our testimony on it. It was also fun to get together with other missionaries and share fun experiences. I also finally got a nice watch! At least it's nicer than I've ever had before haha it is an Axcent of Scandinavia and I'm pretty jazzed about it.
The 4th of July was BOMB. We woke up and went to help Kia (less active) carry some boxes downstairs. We then had some strawberry milkshakes that she made with her unclean cat hair fingers with moldy strawberries. haha oh man, the milkshake was super good! That evening we went to a 4th of July party at the Murphys! We played some Swedish games and football and ate a bunch of American food and sweets. It was a lot of fun! And kind of nice to hear lots of english speaking people for a change.
KINDA SCARY STORY: We officially dropped an investigator who had been taught by missionaries for 20 years, but she was just not progressing nor has been for like at least 5 years...I'm surprised missionaries didn't stop teaching her earlier. She wasn't too psyched about it..We came home and were getting ready for bed when we felt something super weird and bad in our apartment. We thought it stemmed from the fact that we had dropped this lady and she had some really harsh feelings towards us, but then we realized that the elders weren't home in their apartment on time. We called the elders and asked them to come over and bless/dedicate the apartment. They came over and felt extraordinarily bad that they might have been a contributing factor to having this bad energy in our apartment. They blessed the apartment and also gave us both priesthood blessings. All was good after that. The next evening we both had promptings that something big is going to happen soon. It could be good or bad, we don't know, but it kind of freaked me out a little bit. But it has been a HUGE testimony builder to me that Satan is real and that we must always trust in the Lord in all that we do and lean not on our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). After I was able to wrap my mind around that, all was well again. I know that I am here for a reason and that no matter what happens, I am here to be a missionary. Nothing can distract me from the Lord's work here in Sweden.
The next day was Fast Sunday and it was the best Sunday here in Borås so far :) We taught the UK (YW) about missionary work and how important it is to pray with real intent. Majella came to church again and we were able to teach her the Plan of Salvation and draw it out for her. And we finally got her number! We are hoping to meet with her this week. Next we had sacrament meeting. We spotted Kia and just about died! We sat next to her and to make the situation even more glorious, she got up and bore her testimony about how special it was to have us come over to her home and teach her the Restoration. It was so cool to see her in church with the testimony that we always knew she had. We worked with the elders on area goals and planned a cool way to get the member missionary work flowing!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE being a missionary :) I love being able to trust completely in the Lord and relying on the Spirit in all that I do.
Love and miss you all! Have a wonderful week!!

July 13, 2015

Hey!! Sorry this is a day late! We cut our pday short yesterday and didn't have time to really email. So here we go real fast!
What a crazy week! So many great things have happened in such a short time :)
I hit my 6 month mark on Tuesday! It is so crazy that I'm a third of the way done with less than a year left! whaaaaaat. So crazy haha I spent my 6 month mark on exchanges with Sister Allred (our STL) in Västra Frölunda so we didn't do anything tooooo big. We taught a new investgiator of theirs who was wearing all leather attire haha. He bought us cokes and we taught him about the Book of Mormon. He invited us to come back to his apartment and I could have sworn he was trying to kill us. He had a knife in his back pocket - not just a pocket knife or butter knife..it was like a stabbing knife. He tried to get us to step into his apartment and shut the door. #sketch. And we totally saw Robert Downey Jr!! We think at least...98% sure.
We played tennis this week with one of the elders/our investigator! The elders came too and I beat Blackburn so now I am 3/3 in playing elders in tennis!
We dropped one of our investigators a week or so ago and had some tough times dealing with that the the consequences from that. Deciding not to meet with her motivated her to truly ask if this is the true church - so she asked and received the answer that it was! She texted us and told us about her decision. So that was super exciting and extremely BIG! She has been taught for over 20 years and now she will finally be baptized (if all goes well)! We are super excited to teach her again and prepare her for that!
There was a day this week where we got blåsted all day and decided that hey, let's go get some donuts to soothe the pain. As we were walking down the street eating our donuts, a man said "Hallå grisar" which means hello pigs hahahah needless to say, our self esteem was shot even more than before. Rude but oh well!!
We had a really great discussion with a new investigator  of ours named Robert (he is from India)! He is SO prepared and fun fact, we met him on Giles birthday! We actually taught him twice this week and he was so receptive and we can really tell he is considering all aspects of becoming a member of our church :) We also have a new investigator who is from Greece! He is super cool and open to the gospel as well.
We went to meet with an old investigator named Mohammad. We got there and turns out there were two Jws already there - IT WAS A SETUP. Oh man I was so nervous. I ended up distracting the JWs with random questions and discussion topics while Giles taught Mohammad. By the end of the hour and a half I was exhausted!
While waiting for the bus Saturday evening, a group of young boys (17 ish) came up to all four of us missionaries and asked us to teach them. They were all pretty tipsy and somewhat all over us haha. They invited us to go down to the lake and hang out with them - which we turned down. We got their numbers so maybe we will teach them again haha Oh and the majority of them were gay which was cool to talk to them about. They said that before we talked with them they were pretty against Mormons and now they are interested and PRO mormons!! WOOHOO
For Pday we went to some caves and hiked some mountains in Jönköping with our district! It was super duper fun, but very tiring as well.
A great, busy, tiring week!! So happy and proud to be a missionary here in Sweden!!
Love and miss you all!! Have a great week :)

Kärlek,
Sister Jordan Lund

Hejsan!! Hoppas allt är bra med er!
This week has been kind of laid back because no one was answering their phones! Lots of contacting and studying. We had a specialized zone training on Wednesday which was awesome. We went to the Utby chapel early in the morning to have Giles and some elders practice their song - which was BEAUTIFUL. The training was all about the Book of Mormon and how we should be giving them out to anyone and everyone we can. We went and ordered about 65 BoMs after that in a few different languages. Also, I had a contest with the assistants to see who could throw food in the air the highest and catch it in their mouths. It was super fun and they laughed about my hidden talent.
We played a prank on Elder Blackburn and told him that we had done something bad with some boys we had met on the bus. He TOTALLY bought it and believed us when we said we were getting sent home. We used it as a teaching moment to tell him that never would we EVER do anything to get us sent home haha. He thought it was funny so it was all good.
We went to the Baqueros house for dinner which ended up being crackers and jam which was good too. We taught them the member missionary lessons that we are working on with the members and it went super well! They don't speak much swedish so we are going to try to brush up on our spanish before we go back. The busses were all janky and we thought we weren't going to be able to get back to our apartment until the next morning at 4 am haha buttttt it turned out okay. WE LIVED. We also helped a lady who lost her kid in the park. Super crazy because after looking for probably 15 minutes, and praying individually to find the kid, Giles and I came back together and said a prayer. As soon as we said Amen the kid was found.
We offered a guy a tampon for his bloody nose..I guess they don't do that here in Sweden. He gave us the weirdest look haha.
The highlight of this week was a lesson that we had with the elders' investigator named Mattias. We started out with just cutting his hair and trying to get through to him and then it turned into a full fledged lesson. We sang a hymn (Nearer My God to Thee) and he was hit so hard with the Spirit that he was literally speechless and even choked up a little bit. We talked about why he doesn't want to be baptized and basically got the details and broke down lots of barriers. He ended up saying his first EVER vocal prayer at the end. It was so awesome! We challenged him to meet with us everyday this week and read and pray. We tried to break it to the elders in the best way possible and I think we did a pretty good job. We are all on the same page now! And we have been planning his lessons and they are seriously going to be SO AWESOME. We are so jazzed to teach him more.
We swung by Kia this week and she took us out for ice cream! It was super fun and we taught her the member lesson also. She was super excited about it!
We did a deep clean of our apartment before Sunday and MAN it was so great to wake up to a clean room! Elder Blackburn won a contest at the 4th of July party and finally got his prize of peanut m and ms. Obviously we wanted them haha. In sacrament meeting we snuck his backpack under the chairs over to us while Giles distracted them. I unzipped the backpack and dropped my jacket down to pick the m and ms up with. GENIUS. All the while, the members behind us were cracking up so hard hahaha. It was just a great execution. We got away with it, and they didnt realize they were gone until about an hour later when we weren't with them.
We are super excited about this week!! It is going to be awesome!! Lots of lessons planned so we'll see how it goes!!

Love and miss you all!! Have a great week!

Lesson with Mattias

July 27, 2015

I have to start this email off by saying that we have permission from our Zone Leaders to email today because of some mandatory missionary activities yesterday.
ANYWAYS, How is everyone doing? I hope everything is going well!!
Okay, the biggest thing this week was MATTIAS!! I can't remember if I told you guys the beginning of the story last week, but I will delve into it again.
It all started when we gave him a haircut. It turned into a gospel discussion about kind of where he is at, because he has been coming to church for about 2 months and wasn't really progressing. I had a really strong impression that we needed to teach him every day for a week. I kind of shewed the impression away because he was currently being taught by the elders, but again it came at me and I didn't deny it. He agreed to meet with us everyday that week and keep all the commitments we were going to give to him. I promised him that by the end of the week he would want to be baptized or at least have a belief in God. Sister Giles kinda looked at me like I was crazy for making that statement, and he did too haha but oh well. He started this week off pretty simply not believing in anything besides maaayyybeeee there is something higher. maybe. We taught him all the lessons that week - IN EXTENSIVE DETAIL. He is a very logical thinker and has a lot of questions which is super super awesome. Our lessons are usually around 2 hours with him and just jam packed with the Spirit haha. We had the elders with us on 2 of the 7 lessons this week so it was good to get their view as well. LONG STORY SHORT: we invited him to baptism on Saturday and he accepted! We set his date as September 5th, but there is a really good chance he might want to move it earlier. From 0-5% belief in anything to now about 85-100% in everything is something that has BLOWN MY MIND THIS WEEK. The power of the Spirit is SO REAL. We met with him at the bus station before church on Sunday so we could talk a little bit more before church and he was wearing a suit!! This is a guy who literally...no joke...has only worn sweatpants and sweats for the past 5 years to acclimate his body to anything. He put on a suit for church!! The elders brought some ties for him and taught him how to tie a tie. It was the most precious thing I have ever seen. Overall, this week has just been the most spiritually enriching and joyful week of my mission so far, if not life. We have truly felt the Spirit work through us to help touch this young man's life. And I KNOW that it has nothing to do with Sis. Giles or I, it is truly thanks to the faith we had, the fasts, and the Spirit. I am so grateful to have had to chance to help in that process! We will continue to teach him and baptize him with the elders - which will be good because we all have good input to put in to help Mattias.
There was this big running event in Borås this week called Orienteering? I had never heard of it before, but apparently it is a HUGE deal. About 20,000 people came in to Borås to participate in this, we meet a lot of people from all over the world including America, Canada, Japan, Australia, England, Norway, Poland, etc...basically everywhere.
We had breakfast with the Baqueros and prepared our lesson in Spanish! It is so crazy that literally almost everything that I learned Spanish wise in high school is GONE. GONE. Swedish came in a pushed Spanish right out haha. Sooooo we were basically reading our translation the whole lesson haha. They made some really good Columbian food for us though!
We tried to go out and sing tract, buttttt people weren't too fond of that idea, and threw stuff like chairs and whatever else down the stairs at us haha, we will definitely not be doing that again.
Yesterday we had a mandatory volleyball tournament with our zone - it was apparently initiated by President and Sister Beckstrand so it was MANDATORY. It took us a few hours to get there and back and that is why the emailing is today! It was super fun to play though!! We played district against district and then we split up into other teams. The team I was on got 2nd place, but we played super well together! It was just super fun!
This week has been so EXTREMELY spiritually exhausting but I wouldn't trade this exhaustion for anything. I am so so so happy to be a missionary and helping others come closer to God. AGHH I just can't explain my happiness haha.

LOVE and miss you all so much!! You are always in my prayers.

Midsommar in Sweden and Transfer to Borås

Flower Crowns
 June 22, 2015

What a great week to be alive and a missionary here in Sweden!
Last pday we had a big BBQ with missionaries all over the Stockholm area. We played some sand volleyball and our team crushed! It was super fun to just hang out with other missionaries and have a good time together. Tuesday morning we planted flowers at the temple and it looks soooo pretty! We had a great lesson with Kjell and his wife about the Book of Mormon and faith. We finally were able to teach Michelle the Restoration! It went well and she had lots of good, deep questions. We had our lesson with Andreas and it went okay. He said that he wasnt so sure if he could keep putting forth the same effort. Syster Irene and I called him out and kinda made him think more about what he was actually saying. He said he would keep trying and reading in the Book of Mormon every night. It's crazy because I feel like every time we teach him, it is never us actually teaching. We always just wait for the Spirit to tell us what to say next haha.
Another blood incident this week: We were studying in the morning with the window open when we randomly heard a grunt and a thud outside. We went to teh window only to see an old lady on the ground with blood dropping down her whole face. We ran outside to help her - there were some people that were in the area and we borrowed some guys gym socks to try to stop the bleeding. The gash was MASSIVE on her forehead and on the side of her face as well. I was the one holding the socks on the wounds and Irene had her arm around the lady trying to comfort her. The ambulance came and as the EMT was looking at her cut, I then realized that it wasn't just a dent in her head, it was skin that had split right open and straight to her skull. It's safe to say I started getting super light-headed and nauseous. I took a nice step to the side as to not get in the way and so I could control myself so I didn't pass out. Turns out I don't think I will be able to be a doctor or surgeon of any type. The lady is okay now, we saw her yesterday but she didn't remember us. Oh well!
We helped clean windows, planted more flowers, member practice lessons, etc.
We had our last district meeting as a zone and played a fun jeopardy game. We went to a member's house (Miriam) and celebrated Canada day and her names day. We made an awesome cake for that! Cake bosses over herrreeee.
Played Soccer inside because it rained most of the day. It was SO HOT inside. But it was so fun.
Friday was Midsommar! We went to Tyresta By to set up for the festival that the church was putting on. It was rainy and muddy for most of the time, but we made it fun! We decorated the Maj pole with flowers and leaves and as it went up, it snapped haha. We danced around it and had a good time. We also made flower crowns! The missionaries had a big tug of war competition and that was fun haha. We went to Gubbängen chapel for some "Olympic Games" (relay races, etc) and our team ended up winning that too! We got cool mustaches as a prize.
I GOT THE CALL. I will be transferring to BORÅS this Wednesday and I will be companions with Sister Giles!! I am sad to leave VH but excited for a new area and new challenges.
THIS SUNDAY WAS GREAT. Such a good Sunday to end on. Bozidar came to church at 9 and then we had 4 other investigators come to church in our ward (Cecilia, Carolina, Sofie, and Jenny)!!! Oh man it was awesome. We sang in church with our Investigator Jenny while a mindra activ played the piano for us! It was just a good meeting all around with great talks and other great musical numbers. 3 of those 4 investigators stayed all 3 hours! Oh man they are so golden. I am so jazzed for Syster Irene to keep working with them. The next sister in here will probably get to baptize all three of them! I said lots of goodbyes, but it still doesn't feel real.
Oh man, I love love LOVE being a missionary. I can't even emphasize that enough. It has blessed me so much and changed me in more ways than I know. I am so grateful for the opportunity I have had to serve here in Västerhaninge.
Have a wonderful week!! Love and miss you all!

Mustaches for the taco party

hej hejjj
Jag hoppas allt är bra med er!
This has been a super crazy week. I went from a tiny city of Västerhaninge to a larger area of Borås! So this is like a mixture of VH and Borås.
It was pretty tough to say goodbye to Västerhaninge. My baby area!! It was tough to say bye to some members and some investigators as well. The hardest party was probably saying bye to our new investigators who are soooo prepared to receive the gospel! There were about 4 people on track for baptism and with incredible potential when I left, so that was tough. It was tough to say goodbye to Sister Irene as well. I learned soooo sooo much from her. She probably has no idea. It was also tough to say goodbye to Burton, we've been together in VH for 4 and a half months together. He's a good missionary. It actually didnt take too long to pack all my stuff. Maybe around 2 hours in total. And I left a good amount of stuff in VH.
The travel was absolutely awful in every way possible. The POEs had planned for me to leave early Tuesday afternoon and we had all sorts of lessons planned that evening and that was not going to work out. We asked them if there was any other way to take a different train. Turns out there is, but it was at 4:30 in teh morning the next day. We took it! haha instead of taking it SUPER EARLY out of Vh we went to Stockholm and stayed the night with the STLs. In the morning, we were sending down my luggage in the elevator (by itself because the elevator wasnt big enough for us too) and the elevator got stuck..and we were already running late. It was SO STRESSFUL. I barely made my train. Not to mention trying to switch trains a coupletimes with 3 suitcases and a package for Giles. It was just rough, good thing I don't get embarrassed too easily. Giles picked me up from the train station and we went back to the apartment to drop off all the stuff. SLIGHT PROBLEM. Our apartment is on the 5th floor without an elevator. It was tough haha. So there are sisters and elders in this area and we are all from California! Giles is from Manhattan Beach, Stoeltzing is from Carmichael, and Blackburn is from Fair Oaks. Californians take over Borås! We went to an investigators house that evening named May and sung some songs with her.
We had district meeting with our district and learned about raising the bar and how once we raise it, we never need to go back down. We taught some investigators and contacted a lot as well as worked in the AB. Friday we had a ward taco party! We tried to make snickerdoodles and they didnt turn out just right so we called them "mexican papusas" and just kinda went with it. We figured peolpe probably wouldn't know. The ward is super sweet and very welcoming, and they rock at member missionary work! At the taco party we drew mustaches on everyones faces, but we drew ours before we left the apartment. We traveled with them for about an hour to the church, it was a good contacting point haha. We even had a pinata that was painted like a dalahest (sp?) that the kids just destroyed. We had lunch with a member and his referrals. It was a bomb lesson, but they weren't super interested. It was also Giles Birthday on Saturday so we celebrated with kebab pizza and a little jam sesh. Stoeltzing brought a nose whistle and Blackburn rapped with his nose plugged. We had an investigator in church too! Her name is Magella and she is from England. We were able to teach her the Restoration and I think it went pretty well!!
GILES AND I are having a blast together and we are ready to kill it here in Borås! We are going to tear this place up one investigator at a time haha. But for reals, I'm super excited!

Have a wonderful week! Love and miss you all!
